Columbus Chamber Goes Green with Business Resource Site, Operations

Columbus Chamber supports regional business committed to environmentally-responsible operations and practices.

COLUMBUS, OH, April 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In support of Earth Day on April 22, the Columbus Chamber announced the formation of a new member council and Web page for green business efforts in Columbus, Ohio.

The purpose of the Columbus Chamber Green Council is to promote businesses that solve environmental problems with innovative products and services and to encourage environmentally responsible practices and operations in the Columbus region. The Green Council is chaired by Doug Morgan, partner, Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP and member of the Chamber's Board of Directors, and includes 16 Chamber members from various companies and industries.

"It's crucial that the Columbus Chamber helps advance green practices in our region," Morgan said. "These principles, policies, and practices will improve the quality of life in our community, as well as the environment."

This week, in conjunction with Earth Day, the Chamber will launch a green page on its Web site, with links to information on green practices and a directory of Chamber members that provide green products and services.

The Green Council spearheads and supports the Chamber's new page, which is designed to aid businesses in Columbus with their green practices. From business interiors to waste solutions, the site can help connect organizations to the resources they need to advance their green business initiatives. The new page also includes a resources area, a member spotlight, and a green news section, which features news affecting the green community.

Columbus Chamber Embraces Green Practices

In an effort to remain environmentally aware and "practice what it preaches", the Columbus Chamber resides in the renovated Lazarus building, which is Gold certified in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The Chamber is pursuing Silver certification for its 14,000 square-foot space and has received Green Spot certification from the City of Columbus.

"We're proud to occupy a space that reflects the green standards we are encouraging Columbus to apply in their businesses," said Ty Marsh, president and CEO, Columbus Chamber. "Along with our building, the Chamber's environmental practices include the collection of recyclables, use of materials manufactured regionally, water conservation, energy efficient lighting, use of ENERGY STAR rated equipment and appliances, reused furniture and furnishings and low-emitting materials."
