Experience Long Night of the Museums in Dusseldorf - LateRooms.com

A special event provides late-night access to Dusseldorf's rich array of museums and galleries.

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, April 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People staying in Dusseldorf hotels will soon be able to explore the majority of the city's art and cultural exhibitions in a single night.

Taking place on May 8th, the Long Night of the Museums is a special event in which the galleries and cultural institutions of Dusseldorf stay open into the early hours.

Many of the venues organise specific programmes for this one-off occurrence, while regular shuttle buses are on hand to transport people from one museum to the next.

The concept was pioneered in Berlin and has now spread to several major German cities, with Dusseldorf joining the party in 2001.

All museums will be open from 19:00 to 02:00 local time and there are 37 venues taking part in the event this year.

For 2010, the theme of the Long Night of the Museums will be "KunstZeit", or ArtTime.

Tickets for the event are priced at EUR12 (GBP10.60) and will shortly be made available at participating venues.

The city is home to a vibrant art gallery scene and has many highly-regarded museums to its name, making the Long Night a great opportunity for culture vultures to brush up on their knowledge.

Various exhibitions will be devoted to the fields of painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, design, music, natural history and film installations.

Important museums in Dusseldorf include the Kunst Palast, the NRW Forum, and the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Later this year, the Kunst Palast is due to present a special collaboration with Tate Liverpool.

The two museums will join forces to unveil a retrospective of Nam June Paik, the pioneering South Korean media and video artist.

Taking place from September 11th to November 21st, the exhibition will feature over 30 large works, including the German debut of Paik's Laser Cone installation.

If you're heading to the Long Night of the Museums this year, we strongly advise that you book your hotels Dusseldorf as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
