Enjoy Dusseldorf's Book Stroll on the Ko - LateRooms.com

One of the most important events on the calendar for Dusseldorf's literary scene takes place in June, when the city's famous Konigsallee boulevard is transformed into an open-air book market.

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, April 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Known as the Book Stroll on the Ko, this event sees book-sellers, publishers and literary organisations set up stalls on the side of the street to create a unique atmosphere.

People booking accommodation in Dusseldorf from June 10th to 13th can walk down the Ko and browse at the various booths, with over 100 different stalls to keep visitors entertained.

This year, the Book Stroll is celebrating its 25th birthday and a large number of special side events have been planned to mark the occasion.

People visiting the city during this time can expect to find readings, street theatre performances, cabaret and musical events taking place along the avenue.

Anticipated highlights for this year include a display of the 50 best moments in German football history, as the Book Stroll coincides with the opening games of the World Cup in South Africa.

There will also be readings from authors such as Thomas Rosenboom and Maria Cecilia Barbetta, as well as music provided by Argentina's Marili Marchado.

According to the organisers, Book Stroll on the Ko usually brings about 400,000 visitors to Dusseldorf during the four days of the festival.

The founding idea of the event was to create a public celebration of literature involving the whole city.

Considered to be Dusseldorf's equivalent of 5th Avenue in New York, the Ko is certainly the right place from which to publicise the joy of reading.

The boulevard is lined with trees and features a canal flowing through its centre, with a large number of luxury stores and designer labels located on both sides.

Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, commented: "Demand for Book Stroll on the Ko is always significant and we recommend that anyone considering attending should book their hotels Dusseldorf as early as possible."
