Music fans prepare for Dusseldorf Jazz Rally - LateRooms.com

Now in its 18th year, the Dusseldorf Jazz Rally will bring a diverse musical mix to the city next month.

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, April 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One of the biggest events on Dusseldorf's musical calendar is due to get underway in just under five weeks' time.

The 18th Dusseldorf Jazz Rally will run from May 20th to 23rd, bringing performers and music fans from around the world to the banks of the Rhine.

Having developed into one of the best-loved events of its kind in Germany, the Jazz Rally prides itself on providing an extensive programme of performances at affordable prices.

This year's festival will offer more than 70 concerts, incorporating 30 different venues across the city for people staying in Dusseldorf hotels.

A concert tent erected in the city's Burgplatz traditionally provides the focal point of the Jazz Rally, with acts such as Candy Dulfer, Jan Akkerman and the Jazz Rally Soul Session due to perform there this year.

Some of the more unusual venues include Hangar 8 at Dusseldorf Airport, where German reggae star Gentleman will be taking to the stage on Friday May 21st.

This concert is one of the festival most eagerly awaited events, as the Cologne-based singer is due to release his fifth album, Diversity, in the run-up to his Jazz Rally appearance.

Tickets for the Gentleman gig are priced at EUR19 (GBP16.70) and a shuttle bus service, operated by event sponsor Vodafone, will be on hand to transport people between Dusseldorf's Heinrich-Heine-Allee boulevard and the airport.

An appearance from British singer Omar is expected to be another highlight of this year's Jazz Rally.

Due to perform in the Burgplatz on Sunday May 23rd, the London-born artist was a figurehead for the neo-soul movement and is perhaps best known for his 1991 hit There's Nothing Like This.

The festival programme also contains a special concert in tribute to Frederic Chopin, honouring the 200th anniversary of the celebrated composer's birth.

If you're heading to the Dusseldorf Jazz Rally this year, we strongly advise that you book your hotel Dusseldorf as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
