Full Color Course Packs and Ultra-Short-Run Textbooks - a New Whittier Exclusive - Color Books at Near Black-and-White Prices

Whittier Publications, Inc., (www.whitbooks.com) an Oceanside, New York-based custom publisher since 1990, announces it can publish niche-market textbooks and course packs in full-color at a cost only slightly more than black and white.

OCEANSIDE, NY, May 10, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Whittier believes it is the only publishing house with this low-cost ultra-short-run color capability. Whittier Publications, Inc. drastically lowered the cost of full-color printing by using a proprietary mix of technology and unique manufacturing practices.

"Custom publishers [specializing in faculty-authored textbooks for the author's students] are stuck in a black-and-white world," says Whittier's publisher Dr. Gerald Etra. "They doggedly keep trying to print color photos and diagrams in black and white, and copyshops, who print most course packs, are no better. Images are poor and students are disheartened by page after page of grey smudges. Today, when even newspapers are printed in color, why shouldn't the course pack that reprints the newspaper article also be in color? Why shouldn't the niche-market upper-level math book have color diagrams and sub-heads?"

When traditional textbooks began utilizing color, black printed books lost favor. Whittier expects the same shift in their niche market.

Color will add one week to the four to eight weeks Whittier normally needs to produce a book or course pack. Royalties earned by the authors and departments will rise, reflecting the slightly higher selling prices.

Founded in 1990 by a professor for professors, Whittier Publications, Inc. pays royalties on every book and coursepack sold. Whittier specializes in niche market textbooks, manuals and the new Colorpack coursepack, prepared with page numbers and table of contents. Whittier operates its own copyright clearance center, art department, printing and distribution. Inquires from authors, bookstores and media at 516-432-8120, Dr. Gerald Etra, Ext 101, Kim, Ext 103.
