HHEAL studio's focus is:

Dwellings...architecture meets people

Institutions...architecture meets history
Infrastructure...architecture meets community

ABOUT HEATHER HOEKSEMA

Heather Hoeksema is an Architect practicing nationally, licensed in California, Colorado, Illinois, and Michigan and is a LEED Accredited Professional for sustainable design practice.

She is Founding Principal Architect at HHEAL Environmental Arts Lab, based in the eclectic Los Angeles West Side.

With a background in the human sciences, she applies her appreciation for a personal and human connection to the environment to her architecture. She believes that places should be designed to be tactile and tangible to the individuals who live with and within them... architecture should awaken the senses.

With extensive experience in the Cultural Arts, including work on internationally-acclaimed theatre and museum projects and teaching at the Art Institute of Chicago, Ms. Hoeksema has developed a conceptual foundation for architecture practice at HHEAL that intuitively and intentionally shapes Architecture from the Arts.

Ms. Hoeksema has studied and worked in the fields of art and architecture for over 20 years. She has been part of the teams responsible for such projects like the Chicago Music and Dance Theatre built in Millennium Park and the University of Oregon Museum of Fine Art Addition. She is currently working on projects internationally and is based in Los Angeles. She is the founder of HHEAL Environmental Arts Lab; a multidisciplinary studio practice that uses artistic processes anthropologically to shape architecture as a humanistic place for both individuality and social interactivity to coexist. All of her work is influenced by nature in its most basic form, understanding architecture as a living organism; an environment within which people experience healthy living and communities nurture their cultural growth.
