Top Cybercrime Journalist Brian Krebs and Cyber-Warrior Ira Winkler to Give Keynote Addresses at Second Annual Information Security Summit Presented by ISSA - LA

The LA Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA-LA) announces award winning cybercrime journalist Brian Krebs and cyber-warrior Ira Winkler will speak at its 2nd annual Summit.

    MARINA DEL REY, CA, May 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The theme of this year's Summit is Unleashing the Power of Collaboration. The Summit will be held Wednesday June 16, 2010, commencing at 7:30 AM on the UCLA Campus and will be hosted by UCLA Extension.

ISSA-LA President Stan Stahl notes, "The Summit is the only educational forum in Los Angeles specifically designed to encourage participation and interaction among three, vital information security constituencies:

(1) business executives, senior business managers, and their trusted advisors;
(2) technical IT personnel with responsibility for information systems and the data they contain; and
(3) information security practitioners with responsibility for ensuring the security of sensitive information.

"There has been an explosive growth in cybercrime in the twelve months since our first Summit, including the brazen theft of millions from corporate bank accounts," Dr. Stahl continued. "That's why the need for the Summit has never been greater.

"It's vital to us that our program appeal to business executives and other senior business managers since they have traditionally thought about information security as a technical matter. That's no longer true and it's important that ISSA-LA help our business leaders understand this. Otherwise, how are they to properly protect their organizations? We feel very strongly that part of our mission is to raise management awareness and understanding about the rising cybercrime challenge. After all, they're the ones with ultimate responsibility if anything goes wrong.

"Because of the importance of helping non-technical management understand their cybercrime challenges we invited Brian Krebs to be one of our keynote speakers," Dr. Stahl continued. "Brian is the number one cybersecurity journalist in America and his blog www.Krebsonsecurity.com was recently named the best non-technical security blog.

"We also have to help the IT community understand the changing face of cybercrime," continued Dr. Stahl. "Yesterday's defenses don't work against the worst of today's cyber-attacks. The Summit is the perfect place for our community's IT professionals to learn what they must do to stay ahead of the cybercriminals. IT professionals will learn how to meet the latest cyber challenges from industry leaders and get to talk to more than 25 information security vendors."

The Summit will also feature a keynote address by cyber-warrior Ira Winkler. The author of Spies Among Us and Zen and the Art of Information Security, Winkler has been called a "Modern Day James Bond" by the media.

Following Mr. Krebs' keynote address, the executives in attendance will be provided a two hour cybercrime executive briefing featuring a distinguished panel of information security experts. Additional tracks will be held throughout the day aimed at providing ongoing education to IT and information security personnel.

According to Danny Lungstrom, ISSA-LA Membership Director, "Now is also a great time to become a member of ISSA-LA with a discounted rate offered to the Summit along with all of the benefits included in membership. Registration is open to anyone interested in learning more about information security but is particularly recommended for business executives and senior managers; business professionals in law, accounting, insurance and banking; technical IT personnel; and information security practitioners."

The Information Security Summit is part of ISSA-LA's important community outreach program. The goal of the program is to help our community stay safe from cybercrime by enabling the necessary collaboration between decision makers, technical IT professionals and the information security community.
