Breast Enhancement Surgeon in Connecticut Performs Mommy Makeovers for Unique Needs of Mothers over 40

Reflecting reports from the CDC that birth rates among women over 40 are on the rise, Dr. Ellen Mahony is seeing more women in their 40s and 50s for "mommy makeover" surgery. She discusses special considerations for their cosmetic enhancement.

NORTH WESTPORT, CT, May 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Post-pregnancy plastic surgery is growing in popularity with women over 40, according to board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ellen Mahony (www.drellenmahony.com). She says that combined procedures like tummy tuck and breast enhancement in Connecticut are catching on so quickly with older moms that they may soon become more common than mommy makeovers for women in their 20s and 30s.

"As more and more women are waiting until a later age to start their families, it's no surprise to see the number of mommy makeovers performed for women in their 40s increase as well," notes Dr. Mahony. "Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding all take a toll on a woman's body, and older moms often find it's harder to 'bounce back' to how their body used to look."

Dr. Mahony cites the increased birth rate for women over 40 as one reason why mommy makeover procedures are on the rise for this patient group. Statistics recently released by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention report that birth rates in general for women over 40 are increasing noticeably, a development that Dr. Mahony suspects may shift the "typical" age for post-pregnancy options like liposuction in Connecticut.

"Women today have an unbelievable array of choices, which is exciting and empowering. For women who want to feel as confident and sexy about their bodies as possible, there's a lot of value in considering a mommy makeover," says Dr. Mahony. "The goals for any mommy makeover are the same, but the approach I use is unique for each woman. For instance, moms in their 40s are more likely to be considering a breast lift than younger moms."

While Dr. Mahony says moms over 40 are still choosing the most common mommy makeover procedures such as Connecticut breast enlargement and tummy tuck, even slight differences in physical needs and aesthetic goals can require changes to her surgical technique.

"An exceptional Connecticut plastic surgeon will take care to address each woman's needs uniquely, but moms who have children later in life often require similar kinds of changes to get results they will be happy with," she explains. "These patients often want to add liposuction or even a facial procedure to make sure their new figure balances out with the rest of their appearance. No matter what a woman's age, if she's considering a mommy makeover she wants to look and feel as great as she did before having kids, and I'm all about helping women achieve this goal."

Dr. Ellen Mahony (www.drellenmahony.com) earned her MD from the University of Pennsylvania, where she remained for her General Surgery residency, Hand and Microsurgery fellowship, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency.
