LateRooms.com - World Naked Bike Ride Arrives in London

Driving a car around London in early June could be an interesting experience, since the World Naked Bike Ride is set to take place in the capital.

LONDON, ENGLAND, May 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Londoners may be surprised to see a fleet of naked men and women charging past them on June 12th, but there is a serious message behind the World Naked Bike Ride.

The main thrust of the event is a protest against the destructive nature of the culture existing in the modern world, but it also serves to celebrate the human body and cycling.

While travellers staying at hotels in London may chuckle at the format of the demonstration, it aims to show the vulnerability of cyclists on modern roads.

"London's cyclists are campaigning for cycle-only zones in cities, safer streets, two-way high-volume cycle corridors, and a ban on car advertising," explained What's on When.

The World Naked Bike Ride describes itself as the largest naked event to promote cycling "in the history of humanity". Having begun in 2004, it is now celebrated in several cities across the world.

People taking part are not obliged to be naked - the slogan is As Bare As You Dare - and it is free to take part.

The event in London will see more than 1,000 bold cyclists meeting at 18:00 BST under Waterloo Bridge.

For travellers that cannot make it into London to support or take part in the London protest, there are several others happening in England around the same time, including in Manchester, Bristol, Southampton and Brighton.
