LateRooms.com - Milan Hosts Paul McCarthy - Pig Island

Paul McCarthy - Pig Island is open to the public in Milan and could be the oddest sculpture people see all year.

MILAN, ITALY, May 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A fascinating exhibition entitled Paul McCarthy - Pig Island is on display at Milan's Palazzo Citterio, and will have attendees gasping and smiling in equal measure.

This intriguing artist uses pirates, clowns, monsters and fairy tales within his work to convey a message about the highs and lows of the life and culture in the US.

It is the first time that McCarthy has created a major show for an Italian institution and with Pig Island he is showing travellers at hotels in Milan his ambitious best.

At its heart, the 100-square-metre-exhibit is a theme park in which the humans behave like pigs, with all the characters casting off their inhibitions and revealing their true nature.

"A contemporary Merzbau, Pig Island is a work-in-progress that Paul McCarthy has been developing for over seven years and can be read as a titanic self-portrait of the artist," explained the organisers.

The piece has been brought to Italy along with several of McCarthy's other works with the aid of Massimiliano Gioni, artistic director of Fondazione Nicola Trussardi, who is curating the show.

Mark Rappolt recently wrote a review of the US artist's work, describing it as a "world awash with ketchup gore."

Running until July 4th, the show at Palazzo Citterio - which has previously been closed for the past 25 years - is free to enter and is open from 10:00 to 20:00 (local time) every day.

For more information on this event visit the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi website.

If you're heading to Paul McCarthy - Pig Island this year, we strongly advise that you book your hotel Milano as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
