Skyscanner USA Travel Trends: London leads Top 100 Summer Destinations for North Americans

Skyscanner forecasts North America's travel trends this summer.

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND, May 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As the temperature warms up, London remains the hottest destination for both U.S. and Canadian travelers - according to search data from flight deals comparison site Skyscanner (www.Skyscanner.com).

The data also showed that New York, with its rich diversity of museums, art galleries, theater, sightseeing and shopping, took the 2nd and 3rd places, respectively, on the US and Canadian top 10 lists. For Americans, the unmistakable pull that the Emerald Isle seems to have has placed Dublin in 4th place. Other colorful, European vacation spots which topped the US charts this summer include Paris, Rome, Frankfurt and Madrid.

Domestically, the endlessly appealing Las Vegas takes 6th place, continuing to beckon with its glamor, gaming and world famous entertainment, despite the impact of the recession. Other US destinations in the top 20 include: Los Angeles, Chicago, Orlando and the ever-beguiling San Francisco.

Traveling farther afield, Americans are now venturing out to long-haul destinations such as Shanghai, home of Expo 2010, Johannesburg, hosts of this year's World Cup, Hong Kong and Brisbane.

This summer, Canadians are looking to follow their love of the World's capitals: London, Paris and New York. Additionally, Canadians just can't resist the pull of other European cities, with Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Rome and Dublin figuring prominently as vacationers take advantage of seasonal, cheap airfare to Europe.

Staying closer to home, Vancouver and Toronto are in the top 10, while Canadians also seem irresistibly drawn to the wide open spaces and western mystique of Calgary, as well as the 'razzle-dazzle' of Hollywood and Los Angeles sunshine.

Scot Carlson, Skyscanner's US and Canadian Country Manager comments: "We have seen an increase in searches for London for travel over the last few months so it comes as no surprise that this exciting and vibrant city has topped the summer charts for both US and Canada. Despite the threat of the ash cloud, it would seem that a dynamic theater scene, great shopping, exciting nightlife and sophisticated cuisine continues to attract North American vacationers to London."
