KENT, ENGLAND, June 04, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Creative and innovative porch shed designs have been inundating www.secrets-of-shed-building.com for the third annual Shed Design Competition, which this year has a focus on sheds designed with integral porches. On the site, porch shed designs are available to the public for inspiration.

The international competition, sponsored by LP SmartSide, was open to amateurs and professionals alike and concluded today with the announcement of the winning designs.

The winning porch shed designs are:

The Designer's Choice
Clear Deck - This deck design includes a porch with an expansive covered area for people to gather and relax. The judge, Justin Anthony of materialicious.com, describes the design as wide open, yet with proper overhead protection.

The designer, Fernando Luciano of Argentina, characterizes the design as a shed with a storage area for garden tools and a covered deck to take a break from work in the garden. The roof is sturdy without columns, which creates a structure free of visual obstructions in order to allow for maximum flexibility with a seamless connection to the surrounding garden.

The Architect's Choice
The Serender Shed - The designer, H. Baran Yildirim of Lisbon, Portugal, describes this shed design as a next-to-nature primitive formation lifted two meters above the ground to make it breezy and create a sense of isolation. The shed is designed with all colors of the rainbow. The space is enclosed by 16 colorful wing panels that can move 360 degrees. This allows the shed to take the shape of a total enclosure or to transform into a complete porch.

"My aim was to create a landmark for the middle of a vast landscape," said Yildirim. "This design is highly visible with its stirring harmony of colors."

The judge, Su Butcher of barefootgilles.com, defines this as the ultimate porch shed.

"It can be all porch, and through a simple idea has flexibility and great beauty," Butcher said.

The Gardener's Choice
Branched -The judge, Alexander Sinclair of BBC's Gardeners' World, describes this shed design as a cross between a bird's nest and camouflage.

The outer skin is made from tree branches mounted on a wooden frame, separated from the inner panels. This skin provides privacy while allowing light to shine through.

"Natural light is the essence of this shed," said the designer, Julian Grobe of Buenos Aires, CF, Argentina. "It's manipulated in various ways as it passes through layers of tree branches, glass and translucent panels."

Designs were judged based on criteria including visual appeal and functionality. The three winning designers receive an Apple iPod nano, courtesy of LP SmartSide and a signed copy of Shedworking - The Alternative Workplace Revolution by Alex Johnson.
