BRENTWOOD, TN, June 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sylvia M. McQueen, MD, Southeast Regional Medical Director and Chief Patient Safety Officer for Prison Health Services, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in healthcare.
Dr. Sylvia M. McQueen is a specialist in correctional healthcare, having accumulated more than 14 years of practiced expertise with Prison Health Services, Inc. Her position with the Tennessee-based agency augments her 17 years of experience in the medical field, especially as it relates to internal medicine. Dr. McQueen supervises comprehensive health services in correctional institutions across North and South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia. In addition to overseeing quality improvement audits, she handles peer reviews, mortality reviews and patient safety. She also provides direct patient care and composes health-related policies and procedures.
Initially attracted to the healthcare field because of an interest in helping others, Dr. McQueen feels that it is her primary responsibility to treat her patients with humility and without judgment. In addition to her involvement with the prison system, she is a United Nations prayer representative for the state of Tennessee. Her success, she notes, is directly related to her compassion and commitment to treating everyone with kindness and respect. In recognition of outstanding contributions to her field, Dr. McQueen was honored with the Regional Medical Director of the Year Award in 2007 by Prison Health Services, Inc. and the Clifford Jacobs Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Patient Care.
Dr. McQueen earned her medical degree from Meharry Medical College. She holds a bachelor of science in medical technology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Her professional affiliations include the Society of Correctional Physicians, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
