Clarke Auction's Monday, June 28th Sale - Midcentury, Napoleon III, Bronzes and Antiques

    LARCHMONT, NY, June 25, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On Monday, June 28th at 6:00 pm, Clarke Auction will sell 400 lots consigned from estates throughout the Greater New York area.

Midcentury Modern includes unique pieces untouched in a Manhattan storage unit for twenty years including chandeliers, dining tables, chairs, and sculpture; chairs by Hans Wegner, a Kamer chandelier, a Daum clock, Aldo Rossi chairs, a Pierre Cardin dining Table, Milo Baughman coffee table and more.

Unusual items such as an inscribed 1862 Civil War Officer's Sword, two 19th C. French military swords; two older needlepoints, including a large American patriotic piece with flags and Lady Liberty, possibly with a Marguerite Riordan provenance, will also be sold Monday evening.

Decorative Arts are led by by a c.1870 Bronze-Mounted Marble Bowl marked Escalier de Cristal; a Gilt-Bronze Figure of a Cossack on a Rock Crystal Base; large Meissen and Royal Copenhagen figurines; a Hummel Nativity Creche; Baccarat Stemware; Lalique, and a collection of Asian pieces from 79th Street just consigned.

Clock examples include a bronze Tiffany Japy Freres carriage clock, an old Seth Thomas Empire clock with a Reverse Painted Scene and Giltwood details; a French Gilt Bronze Cupid Figural Clock; and a French Marble Figural Clock.

Antique and Traditional Furniture Highlights start with French Second Empire-style marble-topped, gilt-bronze, and marquetry pieces; a carved Victorian parlor suite; an exceptional Horn-form Armchair; an 18th C. cabinet, pairs of marble-topped and block-front chests, a Louis XVI-style settee with age, and an older Asian carved and polychromed peacock cabinet among two hundred lots of fine furniture.

Fine art features a selection of 19th C. oils after Old Masters in spectacular giltwood carved frames; a fishing scene by Lorenzo Headley,an ex-Sotheby's 1807 oil on panel by Patrick Nasmyth with old labels, an Alexander Dzigurski seascape, a Tooled-Bronze and Marble Bust of a Beauty by Affortunato Gory, oils after Dali and Chagall; a pair of large pencil drawings by Edward C Carswell, unsigned Neoclassical Male Nudes, a Emlen Etting drawing with a unique frame; and other works still being catalogued.

Silver highlights include a collection of Judaic Menorahs and Spice Boxes, a 19th C. English Sterling Tea Kettle marked Lipton Collection, an immense and heavy Mexican Sterling tea and coffee service as well as pieces still arriving or being catalogued at press time

Carpets include Persian and Chinese rugs in smaller and and room sizes.
