Will a Tummy Tuck Affect My Choice of Swimsuits?

During swimsuit season, the world becomes awash with advice on buying swimsuits for your figure.

MANHATTAN, NY, June 30, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- During swimsuit season, the world becomes awash with advice on buying swimsuits for your figure. From evaluations of control wear that is designed to pull in and tuck everywhere you bulge to tips on finding swimsuits to conceal what you dislike about your body. But you may find that all the advice in the world hasn't helped you look the way you want on the beach.

You have tried dieting and exercise, and been fairly successful. You have lost weight, and you know your abdominal muscles are strong because you can do numerous sit-ups without breaking a sweat, but unfortunately you still don't have a swimsuit-ready figure. Your muscles may be strong, but they are still slack, you have stretch marks, and then there is the loose, hanging skin that hasn't retracted with your weight loss. You know that you can address all these with a tummy tuck, but you also know that a tummy tuck will leave you with a scar. You wonder whether you will be just trading one problem with another, and you still won't be able to wear the swimsuits you want.

Scars from a Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck will leave a scar. As a result, you may feel uncomfortable wearing some of the styles for sale at Victoria's Secret Swimwear, but overall it will increase your options. A tummy tuck scar typically runs from near the hip bone on one side to the hip bone on the other side. In the middle it dips down into the pubic region. The incision and therefore the scar from a tummy tuck is placed well below the waistband of most underwear. It's at or below the level of a transverse c-section scar, so it will be easily concealed by most swimsuits.

What Swimsuits You Can Wear

A good reference point is the hip bones. The rule of thumb is that if you can see the hip bones of the model in the suit that isn't a good option for you after your tummy tuck. String bikinis and many low-rise bottoms will be out for most women(unless your incision heals really well, which does happen sometimes). But since you probably wouldn't have felt comfortable wearing them with your pre-tummy tuck belly, it's no real loss.

You can also start wearing the more revealing monokinis, and many types of bikinis, including traditional bikinis, skirted bottoms, many scoop bottoms, boyshorts, most anything with a full or moderate back, and anything with a high rise waist are all good options. You won't be limited to control tops, tankinis, and one-pieces, but you can still wear them, and look better in them than before. After you have your tummy tuck, you will probably be amazed at what you can get away with that you would never have considered before.

If having a great swimsuit body is important to you, and you have been unable to get the results you desire with diet and exercise, a tummy tuck may be a good option for you.
