LateRooms.com - Berlin International Literature Festival Draws Closer

Spanish writer Juan Goytisolo is set to open this year's Berlin International Literature Festival.

BERLIN, GERMANY, July 28, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Book lovers will be flocking to the German capital in September for the annual Berlin International Literature Festival.

Running from September 15th to 25th, the event is set to bring a host of top novelists, poets and playwrights from around the world to Berlin hotels.

Now in its tenth year, the festival has become an important fixture of the city's crowded cultural calendar and will be looking to build on its reputation once more in 2010.

The organisers recently announced that Spanish author Juan Goytisolo has been asked to give the opening speech of the festival on September 15th.

Born in Barcelona, Goytisolo published his first novel The Young Assassins in 1954 and currently lives in Marrakesh.

He was received many prestigious awards for his novels and essays, including the Mexican Octavio Paz Prize and the Juan Rulfo Prize for Literature.

Although the full festival programme is yet to be published, people planning to attend this year's event can expect to see authors from around the world taking part in a variety of events.

The schedule is traditionally arranged in several sections, including Literatures of the World, Kaleidoscope, Reflections and New German Voices.

Literatures of the World features writers who are chosen by members of the festival jury, while New German Voices exists to give emerging native authors an international platform.

Previous editions of the Berlin International Literature Festival have included the likes of Jonathan Franzen, Gore Vidal, Nadine Gordimer and Jonathan Safran Foer, so this year's line-up should be similarly star-studded.

Events are individually priced, with tickets for the full festival available for EUR80 (GBP66).

For more information on this event visit the Berlin International Literature Festival website or contact the organisers on 030 254 89 100.
