GROTON, MA, August 02, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rod Van Guilder, PGA Golf Professional and Trainer at the Groton Country Club, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Golf Instruction. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

Professional Golfer Rod Van Guilder is an athletic veteran with more than 15 years of experience under his belt. Specializing in golf instruction and club custom fitting, he is responsible for a myriad of responsibilities at the Groton Country Club. As a Trainer, he oversees daily operations at the golf club, supervises the pro shop, teaches and coordinates junior golf programs as well as member tournaments. Additionally, he manages the golf cart fleet and is in charge of preparing budgets.

Mr. Van Guilder is a recognized member of his professional community, honored as one of the Top 100 Golf Teachers in America and nominated as Teacher of the Year by the PGA. Distinguished by his honest nature, he now aspires to open his own golf store or stand-alone golf facility. In a meeting with Cambridge Publishing, he noted that his primary concern now is about the future of the sport and its development.

Prior to becoming involved in professional golf, Mr. Van Guilder served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served as Command Sergeant Major and was also stationed in Okinawa, the Philippines, Thailand, Germany, Hawaii and Turkey. For his excellence, he was honored with the Legion of Merit and several Bronze Star Medals. He holds an associate of arts in liberal arts from the University of Maryland and is a certified PGA professional and with a certification in club repair and golf fitting.
