Michael Zuker anticipates continued service to research and education in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences.

TROY, NY, August 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael Zuker, Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for his dedication, leadership and excellence in research and dissemination of knowledge.

With 35 years of experience in computational molecular biology including 10 years in his current position, Michael Zuker is a pioneer in the development of algorithms and software for use by the biological, biochemical and biomedical research communities worldwide. His "mfold" software for predicting the structure of nucleic acids is legendary. It is used as a vital tool by researchers in the design of new drugs or medical diagnostics, as an indispensable aid in teaching molecular biology and for a host of other purposes. His many responsibilities include teaching mathematics, furthering his own research and maintaining the famous "mfold" web server offering computational services using software created under his direction. The ideal environment at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has allowed him to re-invent and to more than double both the quantity and the quality of his software repertoire.

Dr. Zuker received his Ph.D. in 1974. A current member of the RNA and American Chemical Societies, he was named a Woodrow Wilson Fellow in 1970 and was recognized in Who's Who in America. He plans "more of the same" in the future; research, publishing, securing grants and teaching.
