As Executive Director of Maine Institute for Human Genetics and Health, Dr Hock specializes in exploratory clinical research in environmental oncology to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer by studying cancer risks posed by radon, arsenic and endocrine disrupting chemicals. Maine Institute for Human Genetics and Health is a nonprofit research institute working to support innovations in individualized patient care. In the past, Dr Hock worked as lead scientist at Eli Lilly & Co to develop Forteo , a first-in-class anabolic drug for osteoporosis, and contributed to the development of Evista . At Indiana University, she founded a research and patient advocacy program in osteosarcoma. Dr Hock was Vice President Global Research at Aastrom, Inc, a biotech company with unique technology to enrich bone marrow stem cells. She oversaw clinical trials for orthopedic and dental applications.
Dr Hock received both her PhD (1974) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (1966) from the University of London, UK. She is a member of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the American Society for Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research. She attributes her success to open-mindedness, a willingness to take risks, and skill in promoting scientific collaborations.
