Jorge M. Abril, P.A. Expands Areas of Practice to Include Bankruptcy Litigation

South Florida commercial litigation boutique responds to Struggling Economy

MIAMI, FL, September 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jorge M. Abril, P.A., a Miami law firm entering its 20th year of representing creditors, is pleased to announce the opening of its Bankruptcy practice, rounding out its representation of creditors' rights and remedies in Florida. The firm will represent clients in proceedings filed under Chapters 7, 11, and 13 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, including enforcing secured and unsecured claims, contesting discharge and dischargeability, litigating fraudulent transfer claims and adversary proceedings, seeking relief from the automatic stay, and prosecuting and defending against the recovery of allegedly preferential payments by the Trustee.

The move is spawned by a marked rise in the amount of Bankruptcy filings, and the growing need on the part of existing and potential clients for protection of their interests in these proceedings. According to data released by the American Bankruptcy Institute, business Bankruptcy filings totaled over 60,000 in 2009, the most in 15 years, and over 15,000 more than 2008. Consumer filings totaled over 1.4 million, the most since the enactment of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005. The need for zealous advocacy in Bankruptcy Court continues to rise.

"Since its inception, the firm has focused its efforts on representing creditors of all types," said the firm's founder, Jorge M. Abril, Esq., who is scheduled to lecture on ethical considerations of representing creditors in bankruptcy at an upcoming National Business Institute seminar. "Now, when so many more commercial and consumer debtors resort to bankruptcy, it only makes sense to expand this representation and utilize our experience in debtor-creditor relations in yet another way." According to Craig R. Lewis, Esq., an associate with the firm and co-author of the Florida Collection Law Blog, his practice has always intersected with Bankruptcy law. "As a result, we believe we are uniquely qualified to represent our clients in bankruptcy."
