Carlsbad Department of Development Receives EDA Grant For Cascades Project

The Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) announced Friday the awarding of an EDA grant that will allow for the completion of the canal within the Cascades at Carlsbad, a major step in the completion of the project.

CARLSBAD, NM, September 28, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) announced Friday the awarding of an EDA grant that will allow for the completion of the canal within the Cascades at Carlsbad, a major step in the completion of the project.

"We are very excited to be able to complete this impressive project," said John Waters, Executive Director for the CDOD. "The Cascades at Carlsbad is uniquely situated to succeed with the river, our recreational assets and the Pecos River Village Conference Center all in the immediate vicinity of our future restaurants, shops and extended stay hotel."

Completion of this phase of the Cascades project will allow for a timetable of construction that many businesses have been looking forward to as it will allow for planned move-in dates.

"The Cascades project is a prime example of a targeted investment in the community that will boost the local economy, create good jobs, and bring continued economic development to Carlsbad. By developing our local businesses and creating a unique experience for Carlsbad, the Cascades will continue to bring new opportunities and investments to southeastern New Mexico," said Congressman Harry Teague. "I want to congratulate the City of Carlsbad and the Carlsbad Department of Development on this EDA grant and their hard work on this initiative."

"The Southeastern New Mexico Economic Development District (SNMEDD) is pleased that we were asked to play a role in the Cascades project," said Executive Director Hubert Quintana. "The Cascades is an example of a local community, federal agency-EDA and private business coming together to create job opportunities and add diversity to the area's economy with the goal being to create community sustainability over the long term."

The Cascades at Carlsbad is an open-air market place with over 650,000 square feet available for development along the Pecos River. The Cascades will offer retail, dining, and entertainment venues at the ground level and office space on the upper floors.

"The CDOD recognizes and appreciates the assistance from Congressman Harry Teague, EDA Regional Director Pedro Garza and his staff, local businessman and former Carlsbad mayor Bob Forrest, and Hubert Quintana," Waters said. "Without their help this would not have been possible."

There are plans to have upscale hotels and family entertainment centers within the project as well, creating a unique experience unlike anything within southeast New Mexico.
