LONG BEACH, CA, November 09, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Stephen R. Severance, Gastroenterologist for Long Beach Gastroenterology Associates, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in gastroenterology and medical education.

A 34-year veteran of the medical profession, Dr. Stephen R. Severance is respected for his expertise in hepatology and chemical dependency. He has spent majority of his career at Long Beach Gastroenterology Associates, where he practices both hepatology and general gastroenterology. Additionally, Dr. Severance functions as owner and director of the Full Measures Sober Living Home in Long Beach.

Dr. Severance has also enjoyed successes as a teacher, lecturer, and writer. Originally a creative writing major, he continues to demonstrate a flair for written communication in a variety of publications and has contributed chapters to medical texts. As an associate clinical professor of medicine, he has trained future medical practitioners from the University of California, Irvine and presents lectures with a focus on liver disease and the secondary field of chemical dependency. The recipient of numerous recognitions, Dr. Severance has been honored several times with inclusion in Los Angeles Magazine's "Best Doctors" list, but concedes that he derives the deepest satisfaction from his teaching awards; he was twice named "Teacher of the Year" by the Long Beach Memorial Fellowship Program affiliated with UC Irvine and directed by Dr. Severance.

Dr. Severance completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of California, Irvine, and his residency in internal medicine and his internship in internal medicine at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center. He obtained his MD from Cornell University and is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. His professional affiliations include the Los Angeles County Medical Association and the American College of Gastroenterology.
