AAA Windows Reports Business is up Sharply Due to Expiring Tax Credits

Several tax credits are set to expire on December 31st of this year so turning some of your home improvement 'wish list' into a reality sooner rather than later may be a good idea according to the experts at AAA Windows and Doors of Belmont, CA.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, November 12, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- If you have been considering an upgrade in windows and doors to make your house more energy efficient, now is the time according to the experts at AAA Windows and Doors of Belmont, CA. Several tax credits are set to expire on December 31st of this year so turning some of your home improvement 'wish list' into a reality sooner rather than later may be a good idea.

Homeowners can take advantage of a tax credit, up to $1,500 dollars, for purchasing and installing certain energy efficient products in 2010. This includes new doors and windows for your home. This tax credit is part of the American Recovery and Investment Act of 2009

"Because over the last several months we have received such a higher volume of inquiries related to the expiring tax credits on windows, San Francisco Bay Area appointments have been up dramatically," says Galina Vaysman, a representative from AAA Windows and Doors. "Although it's great to have all the interest in windows, Palo Alto to Pleasant Hill to Fairfield in one day is a lot of driving, and that's what our days have looked like because of these tax credit calls coming in from all over the Bay Area."

Generally, tax credit is more valuable than a deduction because it reduces the amount of tax that you pay dollar for dollar. You should also contact your tax professional for the details tied to claiming these credits. The credit is for 30% of the cost up to $1,500 dollars so that means you would need to spend $5,000 to claim the full credit. The credit applies to 2009 and 2010 so if you already took advantage of the credit in 2009 you may not qualify or may only for the unused remaining balance. Some item credits call for itemized bills or Manufacturer Certifications. Some are good for new construction homes, other are not. Some may be for just your principal residence others may additionally qualify for second homes, vacation homes or rental properties. And, last but not least, the credit applies to improvements 'placed in service' before January 1st, 2011, so don't wait until December 31st to pick up a new exterior door or windows unless you plan on installing them on December 31st.

It is suggested that you call a certified energy efficient window and door contractor as soon as possible to avoid scheduling problems that would prevent you from taking advantage of this program.
