Ben Harper Shows He's Got More Than Vocals and Guitar Talents

Harper to auction photographic art at new exhibit opening Feb. 18.

PALM SPRINGS, CA, February 17, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Renegade Art Gallery will be showing new photographic works by two-time Grammy winner Ben Harper, and a dozen other artists from across the country during Modernism Week, the only event of its kind in the U.S. that celebrates mid-century modern design, architecture and culture.

Harper agreed to participate after an invitation from Renegade artist, Brendon O'Neal, who himself is an accomplished photographer. The gallery will have work from artists working in mediums from painting and photography to sculpture and video available for purchase by silent auction.

This is the second exhibit of the Renegade Art Gallery, which was founded in December 2010 by Malibu resident Alan Long, a long-time patron of the arts. Long recognized the talent in several young artists trying to break into the notoriously difficult world of fine art and decided bringing them together in one gallery would garner them the exposure and credibility they needed to succeed.

"My vision was to provide fine art to the public at affordable prices," Long says. "This exhibit is the culmination of that because these artists are really on the cutting edge of what our culture, beauty, and art is all about, but they can offer the art at costs that are reasonable. Good original art needs to be affordable and obtainable!"

On February 18th, starting at 4pm, each piece of art will have a silent auction bid sheet attached to it. At the end of the evening the silent auction will be closed out and the piece will go home to the lucky high bidder. The bidding starts at amazing values and great deals can be had. Each piece will have a "Buy Now" price that will remove it from the bidding and result in an immediate sale. Other artists featured include Nate Geare, J Micah Nelson, Ben Kiser, Tyler Morgan, Ryan Weigner, Crystofer, Luke Schutte, Dan Irvine, Manny Guardado, Daniel George, Matt Juliano, Brendon O'neal, Tasha Gilbreath and Dustin Otterbach. There is no cost to attend.

The Renegade Art Gallery is Palm Spring's newest gallery amongst the up and coming art scene in Southern California's upscale desert. It is the love child of long-time art patron Alan Long, who himself has been living in the desert for over 30 years, and is proud of its mission of forgoing the art world's high brow antics and being a place where art of all genres is not only welcome, but available at affordable prices. It is located at 1345 North Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA, 92262. www.therenegadeartgallery.com, 619-395-6592.
