    CANTON, MI, May 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- George "The Iceman" Gervin Basketball camp is scheduled for May 21st & May 22nd at Salem High School, Canton, MI. This is a highly skilled player development camp for boys and girls, grades 2nd through 9th. Our staff and players will teach proper basketball skill development and focus on proper technique in all areas. Campers will be organized into groups and teams according to their age and ability.

With several locations and dates nationwide, George ICEMAN Gervin's Basketball Camp has set out to educate participants in the game of basketball. His primary goal is to give back to the local communities by raising money and teaching the game that he loves that has made him the man he is today.

Gervin's trademark move was the finger roll, a shot in which he would roll the basketball along his fingertips. While others mimicked this style when shooting layups, Gervin was known to "finger roll" from as far as the free throw line.

At this camp you will learn firsthand from one of the Greatest 50 NBA players of all time. You will receive education on teamwork, respect, confidence and discipline; all skills required to excel in basketball and take the sport to the next level. Campers will also be educated on proper nutrition and injury prevention.

On the courts with "The Iceman" will be Coach Steve Moreland, Director of Camps and Clinics for the Detroit Pistons and celebrity guests to be announced at a later date.

In order to fulfill his community goals, he will also be delivering a Motivational Discussion on May 21st at 6:00 p.m., Salem High School with Steve Moreland. Plymouth, Canton and Salem Athletic Departments will receive 100% of all money collected from the discussion.

George "The Iceman" Gervin, born on April 27, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan played in both the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Virginia Squires, San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls. Gervin finished with an NBA career average of 26.2 points per game. Gervin is regarded by most to be one of the greatest shooting guards in NBA history.

Named "The Iceman" for his cool demeanor on the court, Gervin was primarily known for his scoring talents. He remains active in the San Antonio community with his seven organizations designed specifically for underprivileged kids, including the George Gervin Youth Center. Gervin is beloved in San Antonio and believes that his own experience as an underprivileged child in Michigan inspired him to get involved. Now he brings that same commitment to Michigan starting with the camp.

Steve Moreland, Director of Camps and Clinics for the Detroit Pistons joined the Pistons organization prior to the 1996-97 season. Coach Steve has shared a similar set of values with thousands of Pistons campers; be on time, be a good listener, take pride in your work, and be a good person. He expects campers to follow those principles on the court, and at home. Coach Steve has brought this message to nearly 28,000 youth over the past 14 summers through the Detroit Pistons Training Camp Tour, which consists of 16 youth basketball camps throughout Michigan and northeastern Ohio. In addition to the Training Camp Tour, Coach Steve created and oversees the Detroit Pistons' Partner Program, which has visited more than 1,100 elementary schools. The K-5 assembly program encourages students to enjoy physical fitness, stay healthy and stay motivated.

Coach Steve is also a respected motivational speaker for Michigan organizations and businesses; Moreland is actively involved with his local area Chamber of Commerce. Former Michigan Gov. John Engler appointed him to the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports. He joined the Pistons after working for the Walt Disney Company, where he helped develop "Disney's Wide World of Sports" complex in Florida.
