NEWPORT, RI, May 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Victoria Johnson, Retired Educator and Administrator, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in education and educational administration.
For 41 impressive years, Mrs. Johnson served as a vital member of the education field. Both as a teacher and administrator, she was dedicated to providing students with knowledge and skills that would result in productive citizenship and lifelong love for learning. She oversaw curriculum development, instructional delivery, health and physical education courses, and collaborated with parents.
Mrs. Johnson, who holds a master's degree in administration and education and a Bachelor of Science in health, physical education, and recreation, achieved great success throughout her career. She was honored with a National High School Coach of the Year Award, the Better Than Ever Principal's Award, the Cape Verdean Award, and the George T. Downing Award, and named an NAACP Role Model. In addition, she became a pioneer in 1996, when she was the first African American woman to become the head of a secondary school in the state of Rhode Island.
Mrs. Johnson credits her success to the encouragement she received from her mother and mentors. Currently in retirement, she retains memberships to numerous organizations, including the Newport Historical Society, the Newport Public Library, The King Center, and the Rhode Island Commission on Women, and hopes to continue giving back to her community.
