Children, Families Invited to Exhibit Opening at Nana's Fire and Safety School

Nana's Fire and Safety School will have its grand opening of Nana's Interactive Exhibit inside the Permian Basin Regional Training Center on June 11, 2011 from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

CARLSBAD, NM, June 07, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nana's Fire and Safety School will have its grand opening of Nana's Interactive Exhibit inside the Permian Basin Regional Training Center on June 11, 2011 from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

"The interactive exhibit is the next stage of growth toward our goal to teach children how to be safe," said Martha "Nana" Chapman. "We want everyone to come out and see how Nana's Fire and Safety School came to be, show families the reason to be vigilant with their children's safety, and share our vision for the future."

Nana's Fire and Safety School and the Permian Basin Regional Training Center (PBRTC) are the results of the August 2000 tragedy when twelve members of Chapman's family were killed in a gas pipeline explosion. While PBRTC focuses on training professional emergency responders, Nana's Fire and Safety School is for children. Chapman said, "When it's complete, this will be the best place for children and families to learn basic safety and have fun at the same time."

The construction plans include one building large enough to house a fire truck, small movie theater, and classrooms. Outside, a miniature city will allow everyone to learn how to cross the street, awareness around railroad tracks, bicycle safety, and more. The education will be provided by local fire fighters, emergency responders, and law enforcement. Adult volunteers will assist with tours and general operations.

"The main building is the most complex and expensive part of the school since it will contain all the water, electrical, and other utility junctions for Nana's Safety Village. The downturn in the economy slowed donations and slowed the construction timeline" commented Chapman. "Once it's open, Nana's Fire and Safety School will be another family-friendly place to visit, like the Carlsbad Caverns, Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, and Pecos River Beach."

Nana's Interactive Exhibit will be open 10:00am to 2:00pm on the second Saturday of every month. The entry is on the east side of the Permian Basin Regional Training Center - 1500 Commerce Drive, Carlsbad, NM. Nana's Fire and Safety School, a nonprofit organization, offers a fun and exciting place to teach everyone about the kinds of accidents that hurt and kill America's children every day. The school focuses on issues like fire prevention, bicycle and pedestrian safety, motor vehicle safety, dangers of speaking to strangers, Internet safety, and more. Nana's Fire and Safety School is grateful for the volunteers and caring donors who share the vision and mission with Nana.
