All Gold Nugget Awards ticket holders will receive complimentary passes to PCBC's Exhibit Hall.

"The Gold Nugget luncheon is always a sellout, so we urge timely purchase, especially for Merit Award winners, whose projects will be showcased as the finalists for our Grand Awards," said Gold Nugget Awards Judging Chairman and show producer Peter Mayer. "This is definitely the place to see a spectacular overview of emerging design and planning trends in residential and commercial development--it's a given for industry leaders, and we're looking forward to a great show."

Gold Nuggets 2011 attracted entries in 50 categories for attached and detached housing designs, including affordable, custom and re-use and renovation work. Also honored are diverse commercial, recreational and specialty buildings, as well as a variety of land planning achievements.

Gold Nugget Awards Judge Tom Doucette of Doucette Communities in Tucson, Arizona, said this year's competition was exceptionally diverse, with winners coming from throughout the U.S. and internationally. "Creative ideas in design do not know boundaries," he said. "We found the variety and level of excellence to be particularly heartening this year."

Fellow judge Philip M. Hove, AIA of Hove Design Alliance in Irvine, California, said custom home submissions were especially impressive. "Both exterior architecture and interior design were just exceptional, in homes both large and small," he said. "We feasted our eyes on some marvelous contemporary work that we have not seen in some years."

"The custom homes offered impeccable 'green credentials' that provides a spark for homebuilders," added Doucette, "These homes set an example for residential design in the coming years."

Design for attached homes has come into its own, said both judges. "The design/development community has finally addressed this element of our lifestyle to make multi-family homes exciting, livable and inviting," said Hove. "What we saw was housing that would get people buying because they want to, not because they have to."

"The multi-family projects were tough to judge because the bar is now set so high," said Doucette. "Higher density, attached housing is growing in influence and setting the template for a larger share of housing demand."

"All of the winners inspire optimism about our building industry," said Mayer. "All of them can be very proud of their achievement in a competitive year."
