ROOSEVILLE, MN, June 30, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Sheldon L. Braaten, Executive Director of Behavioral Institute for Children and Adolescents, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in juvenile mental health.

A veteran of the Minneapolis public school system, Dr. Braaten saw firsthand the psychological and emotional needs of the young people he was teaching. He began working with young children in a mental health center, and then transitioned into the education of aggressive and violent adolescents. Two decades later, he is a respected expert in the treatment of various emotional and behavioral disorders. He lends his talents to BICA, a center that specializes in mental and behavioral health care, juvenile justice and special education for children and adolescents. In charge of designing and evaluating programs, Dr. Braaten considers improving children's lives to be the most rewarding aspect of his career.

Dr. Braaten holds a Ph.D. in special education and educational administration from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree in special education, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Augustana College. He is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, Council for Children with Behavior Disorders, Correctional Education Association, Association for Behavior Analysis International. Dr. Braaten was the Meeks Distinguished Professor of Special Education at Ball State University from 1997 to 2006 and for the year 2009-2010 was declared a Professional of the Year in Juvenile Mental Health by Cambridge Who's Who. He was also named a Top 101 Industry Expert.
