Bishop Mar Awa Royel Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Religious Services

Bishop Royel heads the Diocese of California and attends religious conferences around the world

SALIDA, CA, August 26, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ --, Mar Awa "David" Royel, Bishop for the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in religious services.

Shortly after obtaining a Ph.D. in Eastern Christian liturgy in Rome, Italy, Bishop Royel came to preside over the Diocese of California, which encompasses five parishes and one mission of the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East. In his position, he is primarily concerned with managing the operations of the church and its affiliates, including acting as the secretary of the Holy Synod and president of the commission on interchurch relations and educational development. A world traveler, he recently spoke at the Eighth Annual Christianity In Iraq Conference, which was held in London on May 28, 2011. In the near future, he plans to attend the International Congress on Ss. Addai and Mari, hosted by the Pontifical Oriental Institute, from October 25 to 26, and the World Day of Prayer for Peace, Assisi, from October 27 to 28.

Prior to earning a Ph.D., Bishop Royel completed a master's degree in Eastern Christian liturgy, a Bachelor of Sacred Theology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Theology. He is a member of the Assyrian Church of the East Relief Organization and Pro Oriente Foundation's Forum Syriacum. Additionally, he currently serves as Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Assyrian Church of the East, and President of the CIRED Commission.
