Fort Mason Center Creates Interactive Visitor Experience with Guide by Cell Suite of Mobile Services

Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, CA is using a variety of mobile technologies, provided by Guide by Cell, to encourage interaction and enhance the visitor experience at the recently launched "SEAT" outdoor art exhibit.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 19, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For the first time, a major cultural institution is leveraging four Guide by Cell mobile technologies to provide a wide range of interactive choices for the visitor experience.

This summer, San Francisco's Fort Mason Center launched the year-long "SEAT" exhibition featuring over 30 Bay Area artists, each creating their own interpretation of a "seat."

SEAT is the first exhibition in the country to integrate the full Guide by Cell suite of mobile services. The SEAT works, built by local architects, concrete designers, blacksmiths, woodworkers, and engineers, respond to the physical aesthetic and historical aspect of San Francisco's waterfront.

While visitors sit on the seats and enjoy the Bay view, they can take out their cell phone and interact with the artworks in a variety of ways.

Each seat has a posted sign with the artist's name and title, and four different ways to learn more about the piece. Visitors can dial in to a cell phone audio tour and hear a message from the artist; send a text message to receive information; text "SEAT" to 56512 and receive a link to a mobile website about the piece; or scan a QR code to visit the mobile website, access videos, and view further content.

"We're thrilled to be using Guide by Cell technology for this exhibit. Fort Mason Center is a large outdoor environment, so walking around with a paper map is not always ideal," said Pat Kilduff, Director of Marketing and Community Partnerships at Fort Mason Center. "Most of our visitors have a mobile device, and it's a great way to interact with the works and easily learn more about the artists and the site."

"SEAT is one of the country's first cultural exhibitions to use our entire suite of mobile services, giving visitors amazing options for the content they can access, and how easy it is to find," said Dave Asheim, President of Guide by Cell. "This is a great next step in the future of mobile technology for visitor engagement and education."

SEAT will be on view through May 31, 2012. For more information, please visit: http://www.fortmason.org/seat.
