Cash-n-Carry Salvage Yard Holds Facebook Fundraiser For Local School

Haven Elementary School to benefit from social media activity.

SAVANNAH, GA, September 20, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cash-n-Carry Salvage Yard is well aware of these tough economic times and how the down economy affects social programs like education. That is why they have decided to hold a social media fundraiser through the remainder of the year to help their neighbor, Haven Elementary School.

Cash-n-Carry, a Savannah salvage yard that has been a community fixture for decades, has decided to reach out and help one of the community schools, Haven Elementary School. The staff and management of Cash-n-Carry are having a fundraiser for this school to help them acquire some much-needed educational materials. Cash-n-Carry will donate $1 for every person who goes to their Facebook site, http://www.facebook.com/iluvused and "likes" them. In addition, anyone who checks in on their Facebook page while they are at the salvage yard buying used auto parts will mean another one dollar donated to Haven Elementary School.

This is a unique social media approach to fundraising, an attempt to go "viral" with a feel-good social movement that does not cost anyone a thing other than the few minutes it takes to click "like" on their Facebook page. The hope is that if every customer sent this message to people they know then thousands of people would be reaching out online to help kids in need. A few minutes of time, a click of the mouse, and hundreds of students will receive a much-needed boost in their education.

The goal is to reach $5,000 by December 31st so that a very special Christmas present can be given to Haven Elementary. Sharon Draeger, Interim Principal at Haven Elementary, tells us what the funds will be used for: "Haven Elementary is proud to have Cash-n-Carry as a business partner. We are always thrilled to have the community assist us in educating our students. The funds donated by Cash-n-Carry will benefit our Science and Technology labs and educational experiences. We hope to update our software that is used for math and reading as well as bring some exciting lessons and materials to our science lab; these would include microscopes, dissecting kits, magnifying glasses and other items. With Cash-n-Carry's help we can make our labs exciting places where our students will want to learn."

Kenny Grainger, owner of Cash-n-Carry, wants to encourage all of his loyal customers who buy car parts at his yard as well as anyone interested in a good cause, to "like" them on Facebook and help spread the word by telling friends, family, and co-workers about this fundraiser. Kenny says, "We at Cash-n-Carry have been very fortunate over the years to be supported by this community and now it is our turn to reach out a helping hand to a school in need of some assistance. Please go to our Facebook page and "like" us so we can make this a Christmas to remember for Haven Elementary School."
