Newport Beach Marriage Counselor Offers Emotionally Focused Therapy

Jennifer De Francisco, a Newport-Beach couples counselor, is offering therapy aimed at helping troubled marriages get on a path to recovery. Research has shown couples who try Emotionally Focused Therapy see improvements in 86% of cases.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA, November 18, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Licensed counselor Jennifer De Francisco, LCSW, announced today that she will be providing Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to couples, families and individuals in the Newport Beach and greater Orange County area.

EFT, which draws on attachment theory, is designed to help couples break negative patterns in their marriage and reconnect with their spouse, enabling the relationship to return to its nurturing roots and healthy patterns.

Attachment theory asserts that human beings are hardwired for strong, emotional bonds with others. Secure attachment with a marriage partner, according to EFT, can overcome emotional disconnection and the resulting negative cycles of criticism and anger.

"EFT helps move a relationship from a place of conflict and distress to a place of peace, comfort and trust," says De Francisco. "My experience with marriage counseling in Newport Beach and with EFT specifically gives clients the greatest possible chance of success with their therapy and getting their marriage back on track."

EFT marriage therapy helps to answer these common questions in a relationship:

- Do I matter to my partner?
- Can I count on my spouse?
- Can I trust my partner?
- Will he/she be there for me when I need them to?

These questions are typical for a couple whose marriage is in distress. EFT can help answer these questions and move the relationship away from what couples are fighting about, toward what brought them together in the first place.

"EFT goes deeper than simply surface behavior or actions," says De Francisco. "While making behavioral changes may be positive, many of these changes are temporary. EFT gets to the root of the problem and promotes lasting change, healing and growth."

Like any therapy, the EFT process takes a reasonable number of sessions and isn't always easy. However, studies have found that 70%-75% of couples who undergo EFT move into recovery mode and approximately 86% of couples show significant improvements. In addition, EFT has been shown to be successful with individuals and families.

"EFT works well with couples who are shut down emotionally as well as those who are angry and hurt," says De Francisco. "It has even been shown to be effective for couples where one partner is suffering with depression, chronic illness or post-traumatic stress."
