YARDLEY, PA, January 13, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael Kaufman, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Specialized Education Services, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in educational administration.
A plaque in Mike Kaufman's office contains a motto he strives to live by: "We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give." Judging by what Mike has consistently given to each community of which he's been a part, he indeed has created quite a life, filled with commitment and compassion, with advocacy and tenacity, and especially with helping others attain their highest aspirations, both professionally and personally.
Mike's current position at the helm of SESI (Specialized Education Services, Inc.) — one of the largest, most prominent, and most respected privatized schooling companies of its kind in the country — followed a series of rapid advancements through integral roles within the organization, which serves the complete spectrum of special needs and at-risk students in grades K-12+, aged 5-21. Prior to joining the SESI team in 1998, he accumulated extensive experience in the fields of education, social work, and clinical psychology in one impressive position after another, including Senior Psychological Evaluator for Rutgers College, Director of Student Services for Rutgers Preparatory Schools, and Clinical Supervisor for a private educational facility in Whippany, NJ. He has also lent his expertise to such social service organizations as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in Newark; the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Lyons, NJ; Alternatives in Somerville, NJ; and the Center for Cognitive Rehabilitation in New Brunswick, NJ, home to his alma mater, Rutgers University.
With a bachelor's degree in accounting, a master's degree in social work, and a doctoral degree in psychology under his belt, Mike has particularly enjoyed teaching graduate-level courses at both Rutgers University and Baltimore Community College; hosting his part-talk, part-advice radio show, "The Dr. Mike Show," which aired weekly in Maryland while he was working there first as the Principal of the High Road School of Baltimore and then as the Executive Director of
Specialized Education of Maryland; and his numerous public speaking engagements, which position him where he most likes to be: leading and learning among like-minded people equally dedicated to exploring human potential and bettering society.
Mike possesses a rare combination of business acumen and educational expertise, which is only enhanced by his social work and counseling training. One week will find him among the very distinguished group of select candidates to successfully complete the prestigious Key Executives Program of the Harvard Graduate School of Business, and the next he'll be volunteering whatever spare time he has to such altruistic pursuits as Special Olympics and Big Buddy events. To this day, he remains the Big Brother to the boy he began mentoring in 1996, now a grown father of three.
But wherever he is and whatever latest endeavor has captured his attention and considerable efforts, Mike consistently works to improve the lives of all those around him — whether it's the countless disadvantaged children he serves or the myriad employees he leads — by implementing innovative educational policies, designing motivational managerial programs, devising ways to enrich his company's offerings, and creating a healthy, dynamic work environment for all of his charges. Wherever Mike Kaufman chooses to apply his considerable talents and boundless enthusiasm, he's sure to leave his singular, indelible imprint — one that gives far more than it takes.
