Michael S. Tomczyk Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Technological Innovation

PHOENIXVILLE, PA, February 6, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael Tomczyk, Managing Director of The Mack Center for Technological Innovation at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in his field.

With 17 years of experience as managing director of The Mack Center for Technological Innovation at The Wharton School, Mr. Tomczyk researches radical and disruptive innovations and their implications for the future, develops research projects and insight-building events and serves as a bridge between Wharton faculty and industry partners. He also serves as a consultant to corporations and government agencies on emerging technologies and innovation strategy.

Throughout his career, Mr. Tomczyk has been involved in the development and launch of numerous innovations, including automated teller machines, CT scanning devices, advanced computing systems, Internet applications and homeland security solutions. He is best known for his role in the development and launch of the first home computers at Commodore in the 1980s and has been called the 'marketing father' of the home computer.

His present responsibilities include working with high-tech corporations and government agencies to identify and develop emerging technologies and applications; he helps clients determine strategies for entering adjacent markets and evaluating opportunities and challenges. Mr. Tomczyk often serves as a sounding board for new projects and initiatives and participates in government workgroups focused on technology futures and their implications. His book, "The Home Computer Wars," which describes his experiences, has become a collectible. His new book, "NanoInnovation: What Every Manager Needs to Know" will be published by Wiley-VCH in 2012. He is a founding strategic advisor of the Nanotechnology Research Foundation and a senior member of the IEEE/IEC committee developing standards for the use of nanotechnology in electronics. He also serves on the Commercialization Core committee developing translational medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Mr. Tomczyk received a Master of Environmental Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010, having previously received an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He is a member of the American Academy of Management, the Materials Research Society and IEEE. Mr. Tomczyk served in the U.S. Army for three years, attaining the rank of captain. He served as a public information officer in the XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg and also experienced combat in Vietnam, where he earned a Bronze Star for meritorious service. In years to come, Mr. Tomczyk will be promoting innovations that have the potential to change the world in positive ways, writing books and articles, giving presentations on radical innovation, and helping to develop technologies that will help make the future happen faster.
