WEST SUSSEX, ENGLAND, February 24, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- - Julia Gregory joins Gatwick as Head of Surface Transport
- Gatwick committed to enhancing the airport's strategic connectivity
- Encouraging more air passengers to use public transport is key priority

Julia Gregory joined Gatwick Airport earlier this year as Head of Surface Transport with responsibility for setting and delivering the airport's surface access strategy in support of the airport's ambition to compete and grow to become London's airport of choice.

Gatwick can see a clear path to grow to 40 million passengers by the end of this decade on its single runway, two terminal infrastructure. One of Julia's priorities will be to ensure the road and rail network is fit for purpose and to encourage greater numbers of air passengers travelling to and from the airport to use public transport.

Prior to joining Gatwick, Julia was Head of Transport, Planning and Policy at Stansted Airport, where she established the Airport's Surface Access Strategy and Transport Forum as best practice in the UK and internationally. Whilst there, Julia successfully led the transport team and its consultants through the successful planning application and inquiry process to allow growth of the airport to 35 million passengers per annum.

Julia also spent 16 years in Essex and Berkshire in transport planning and strategy roles and finally as a senior development control officer for the Highways and Transportation Department at Essex County Council.

Commenting on her appointment, Guy Stephenson, Chief Commercial Officer at Gatwick Airport said: "If Gatwick is to see growth in passenger numbers from 32 to 40 million by 2020, then we must ensure the road and rail infrastructure can support sustainable growth and that Gatwick maintains its status as the most accessible airport serving London. Julia, with her wide range of transport infrastructure and transport planning experience across all modes of transport, is the best person to help us achieve that."
