TOWSON, MD, March 2, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Shirish Shah, Professor/Lecturer of Chemistry at Towson University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education. He will be featured in an upcoming edition of Pro-Files Magazine.
For the last 45 years, Dr. Shah has garnered wide-ranging and diverse experience in academia, government and business. He has served as a Professor/Lecturer of Chemistry at Towson University, the second largest school in Maryland, since 1998. He is an expert in the area of chemistry instruction as well as editorial authorship, and utilizes these skills to teach chemistry and write editorials for professional journals. Dr. Shah is also a professor and lecturer in the department of chemistry at Morgan State University.
Dr. Shah has taught at other institutions as well. He served as an associate professor at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland from 1991 to 2002. From 2002 to 2005, he worked as a lecturer and adjunct professor of chemistry at Villa Julie College. Before that, he was an adjunct professor of physical science at Coppin State University from 1996 to 1998 and the chairman of computer systems and technologies from 1979 to 1989. Additionally, Dr. Shah was an associate professor and administrator of marine science at Chesapeake College from 1971 to 1976 and co-coordinator community college at CCBC in Baltimore City from 1976 to 1979 and then from 1989 to 1991.
In addition to being active at the university level, Dr. Shah was a project manager for the Develop and Build Telecommunication Program for MCI from 1985 to 1989 and a new programs developer at the prison system in Jessup, Md., from 1982 to 1990. He counts teaching students in prison among his greatest career accomplishments because he was able to make a difference in their lives. From 1982 to 1989, Dr. Shah also worked as an educational consultant for the Baltimore City Joint Apprentices Committee. Earlier in his career, he served as a director of quality control at Vita Foods, from 1968 to 1973.
Dr. Shah has a litany of professional achievements and awards in recognition of his work. He has received the Grant Award for two-way electronic communication from the Baltimore Mayor's Office of Manpower and the Accolades Award from the American Chemical Society. In 2007, he was a nominee for the International Peace Award. In 2005, he won the Best Co-Coordinator Award for a Chemagination Program from the American Chemical Society. He won a Salute for Active Participation from National Chemistry Week in 2004 and received a Science Policy Award in Washington, D.C. in 2000.
Dr. Shah was educated at Xavier University, from which he received a bachelor's degree in chemistry and physics in 1962, and the University of Delaware, from which he earned a Ph.D. in 1968. In addition, he obtained certification in business management from the University of Virginia in1986.
Throughout his career, Dr. Shah has been extremely active in his profession. He served as chairman of government relations for the Chesapeake Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association from 2003 to 2004 and as chairman of the Maryland Chapter of the American Chemistry Society from 1996 to1998. Dr. Shah organized the Science Education Symposium in Maryland from 1996 to 2003 and has given presentations at the Lilly Conferences on the East Coast. He wrote several articles for the newspapers on the Eastern Shore of Maryland between 1969 and 1976.
