How Breast Implant Placement Affects Results

When you are considering breast augmentation, you realize that the procedure actually has many different options that will affect your results.

TAMPA, FL, March 30, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When you are considering breast augmentation, you realize that the procedure actually has many different options that will affect your results. These include:

- Size of breast implant
- Type of breast implant
- Shape of breast implant
- Placement of breast implant

Getting the results you desire from your breast augmentation means controlling all these factors to create the desired result.

What Are Good Breast Augmentation Results?

Good breast augmentation results mean getting the breast appearance you desire. In general, the factors to consider when thinking about breast augmentation results are:

- Size relative to the body size and shape
- Natural position on the chest
- Symmetry between breasts
- Nipple centered in the breast
- Fullness in the upper part of the breast
- Cleavage
- Chest break

If you take all these factors into account, you will likely get the breast augmentation results you desire.

Breast Implant Placement Options

There are two different breast implant placement options: subglandular and submuscular. Subglandular breast implants are placed directly below the breast tissue but above the chest muscles. Submuscular implants are placed at least partially under the pectoral muscles. Submuscular placement is much more common these days because it has a lower risk of capsular contracture and is less likely to interfere with mammogram results.

How Breast Implant Placement Affects Results

The placement of your breast implants can have a dramatic impact on your breast augmentation results. Breast implants placed under the muscle will not seem as large as the same size implant placed directly under the breast tissue. Submuscular placement may also decrease the appearance of cleavage and may make it harder to achieve lateral chest break (the protrusion of the breast over the side of the chest).

Subglandular placement gives good cleavage, good chest break, and can give you the size of breasts you desire with a smaller implant.

Fullness in the upper part of the breast is important to consider. Subglandular implants may be more likely to give the breasts a rounded appearance on the top, which is considered a visibly augmented appearance. Some women may prefer this. Submuscular implants are more likely to give a flat slope to the top of the breast, which is considered a natural breast appearance. Other women may prefer this.

Breast Implant Placement Affects Longevity of Results

The placement of your breast implants may also affect the longevity of your results. Breast implants placed below the muscle are better supported and are unlikely to sag as quickly as subglandular implants. This is not necessarily desirable. If your breast begins to sag, but the implant does not, it can create an unnatural appearance. Subglandular implants sag with the breast, so although they may sag more quickly, they also give a more naturally aged appearance.

There are many complicated factors to consider when looking at a cosmetic surgery procedure such as breast augmentation. You will only be able to make these decisions after consulting with your plastic surgeon.
