Propelled by his interest in multinational business, Mr. de Brouwer has honed his expertise in banking law for the past two decades. He brings his experience and skills to his role as senior legal counsel for Societe Generale, a leading European bank and financial services company. His position entails overseeing all regulatory aspects in the banking and financial sector for the company. Mr. de Brouwer assists the general counsel for corporate and investment banking to structure the CIB legal function worldwide. He also handles legal and regulatory project management. Mr. de Brouwer began his extensive academic career by studying law at the University of Namur (Belgium) in 1987. In 1992, he graduated from the Universite Catholique de Louvain in Belgium with a license en droit and a bachelor's degree in philosophy. Mr. de Brouwer went on to earn a certificate in International and European law from Universiteit Leiden in the Netherlands and an LL.M. from the University of Chicago. He started practicing law with private firms before becoming the head of the legal department for the European Banking Federation, the lobbying organization for banks in Brussels. Mr. de Brouwer joined Societe Generale in 2005 and has since held subsequent managerial positions. Among others, he spent two years as Chief Head of Legal & Compliance in Tokyo (2009 - 2011). Looking toward the future, he aims to continue advancing his career within the finance sector or in international organizations. Having a special interest in geopolitics, he just started a post-graduate degree in international relations at the CEDS (Centre for Diplomatic and Strategic Studies) in Paris.
