TORONTO, ON, April 13, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Toronto-based independent web series Clutch took home 8 awards at LA WebFest last weekend, and Out With Dad 5, including the Grand Jury Prize which sends them both to the acclaimed Marseille WebFest in October where they will compete internationally.
These wins did not go unnoticed. When The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson heard of Clutch star Elitsa Bako's win for Actress in a Leading Role, they pulled her up for an appearance on Monday night's show. The segment was ultimately cut due to length, but after re-recording a bit where Ferguson delighted with a one-man recap of the conversation, the classy Ferguson sent Ms. Bako to dinner in style at Wolfgang Puck's Cut restaurant (a "Cut" for a cut) to celebrate her win with CBS covering the tab.
Clutch has also been announced as an Official Honoree at the 16th Annual Webby Awards. Among the 10 other series named as Honorees in the Drama category are the acclaimed Mortal Kombat: Legacy and Asylum.
Clutch creator Jonathan Robbins says this of the wins: "As Clutch began sweeping the awards at the festival, I became more and more humbled, having been stunned by the quality of this year's entries, from the knock it out of the park El Porvenir from Mexico to the wickedly funny Pretty the Series from Hollywood. To be chosen to go to Marseille is not only an honour, but a life-changing moment, showing me that in our era of producing your own material it is indeed possible to be in league with material produced by big studios."
Jason Leaver of Out With Dad notes the world wide reach of web series. "The important thing that comes from this recognition is that we are raising awareness of the challenges youth have in coming out and facing homophobia."
