Staxxon Folding Steel Shipping Container Design Receives Global CSC (Convention for Safe Containers) Certificate

Staxxon steel ISO-compliant shipping container technology reduces empty container back-haul operating costs. Up to 5 empty shipping containers can be stored and moved in the same space as 1 empty container.

MONTCLAIR, NJ, April 18, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Staxxon, LLC, a US-based startup focused on dynamic shipping container technology, was issued CSC Certificate Number USA/MC/101/12 on April 12, 2012 by Marine Container Equipment Certification Corp, an authorized approval authority of the United States Coast Guard.

The CSC Certificate and associated ratings mean Staxxon's patented folding/nesting steel shipping container design can be safely loaded and moved with commodity weights and volumes that are typical for 20 foot long ISO/IMO shipping containers used for global ocean, rail and truck transport.

Key ratings for Staxxon's 20-foot shipping container design include:

Maximum Gross Weight: 52,900 pounds (24,000 kilograms)

Maximum Payload: 45,910 pounds (20,825 kilograms)

Stacking (Corner Post): 190,400 pounds (86,400 kilograms)

Stacking Capacity: 423,280 pounds (192,000 kilograms) or 8 high/7 over 1

Transverse Racking: 33,700 pounds (15,286 kilograms)

Floor Strength: 16,000 pounds (7,257 kilograms)

In addition, the Gross Interior Volume Capacity for the Staxxon container design, based on interior (not exterior) dimensions totaled 1,149 cubic feet (32.536 cubic meters)

Staxxon's design reduces back-haul operating costs by folding empty steel containers from left to right - like an accordion - and nesting up to 5 empty containers into the same space as 1.

For example, today 5 trucks drop off 5 empty containers at a port or terminal. With Staxxon's technology, a truck pulling 1 chassis can drop off 5 empty containers. Additionally the equipment used at marine, rail and truck terminals, e.g., straddle carriers, can move 5 empty containers with 1 move instead of 5 moves.

The unique variable folding and nesting capability of Staxxon's design allows for nesting of 2, 3, 4 or 5 empty containers while always maintaining the ISO dimensional requirements.

A container ship that is loading or unloading folded and nested empty shipping containers using Staxxon's space/slot optimization technology could reduce the load or unload time for empty containers by up to 80%.

Shippers, carriers - ocean, rail and truck - plus ports, terminals and storage/repair depot can realize space, time, energy and money savings from reduced moves, storage and back-haul costs through the use of Staxxon technology for empty containers.

Staxxon's founder and CEO George Kochanowski said, "Obtaining a CSC Certificate for our container space/slot optimization technology validates years of work and testing and effectively adds Staxxon's vertical folding/nesting shipping container to the lengthy list of inventions like the airplane, electric cash register and storage battery that were all created in Dayton, Ohio, USA. The next round of market tests and trials will demonstrate that the Staxxon technology and related business model can generate significant cost savings for container fleet owners/operators, carriers, terminal/depot operators and shippers."

Staxxon's flexible licensing-based business model allows customers and partners to retain existing container manufacturing, leasing, fleet management, maintenance and repair relationships.

About Staxxon

Staxxon, LLC is a privately funded US company headquartered in Montclair, New Jersey, USA with its R&D center based near Dayton, Ohio. Staxxon designs and licenses innovative space/slot logistics technology for empty ISO steel containers that reduces back-haul moves and also reduces related energy and operating costs.

About The Convention for Safe Containers ("CSC")

The Convention for Safe Containers ("CSC") was adopted in 1972 by the United Nations and the International Maritime Organization ("IMO".) The UN and IMO collaborate with the International Standards Organization ("ISO") to publish standards for shipping containers. The top goals of CSC are to maintain a high level of safety for human life and facilitate the intermodal transport of shipping containers by providing uniform international regulations applicable to all forms of shipping container transport (excluding air transport.)
