Rhinoplasty Does More Than Make You Look Younger, Surgeon Says

A recent study published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery suggests that rhinoplasty can make patients look younger. Dr. Michelle Spring says her rhinoplasty patients in Los Angeles experience a number of other benefits as well.

MARINA DEL REY, CA, May 02, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Michelle Spring of Marina Plastic Surgery says a recent study published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery offers insights into how rhinoplasty in Los Angeles can help her patients appear more youthful.

"My Los Angeles rhinoplasty patients usually share one key goal: They want a nose that is more attractively shaped and proportioned," Dr. Spring says. "As the study noted, for many people, rhinoplasty can also help them look younger. Although they might not initially choose nose surgery specifically to look younger, my older patients often are delighted with that positive aftermath."

As reported in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, the study showed that nose surgery can, on average, make patients look 1.5 years younger than their chronological age. That rejuvenating result can provide a significant benefit, Dr. Spring says. However, it's only one of many benefits.

"I think it's important to recognize that facial rejuvenation should not be the primary motivator for Los Angeles nose surgery," she says. "As with any surgery, I want to make sure my patients have good reasons for choosing the procedure, as well as realistic expectations of the outcome.

"For example, I have many patients who need rhinoplasty in order to improve their breathing or to repair damage from a car accident or sports injury. For them, achieving a more attractive nose serves as a secondary benefit. For people who undergo rhinoplasty to change the size or shape of their nose, looking younger comes as an additional benefit."

In addition to rhinoplasty, Dr. Spring and Dr. Grant Stevens, medical director of Marina Plastic Surgery, perform a full range of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery procedures, from facial sculpting to body contouring and breast enhancement.
