Have Business Travellers Got the Right Idea Avoiding London This Summer?

Recent research by Travel Click has suggested that business travellers are avoiding visiting London this summer due to the arrival of the Olympic Games, despite LOCOG releasing 20% of the hotel room nights it had reserved back in 2005.

LONDON, ENGLAND, June 01, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Through their research they have highlighted that many hotels have in fact increased room rates and that alternative arrangements are being proposed (pre/post-Olympic travel).

Business travellers are claiming that visiting the capital this summer will be too expensive, busy and generally a stressful experience. Lawrence Simons, Group IT Director at ColArt said: "Accommodation in London this summer is going to be expensive and frankly, the thought of staying in a cramped hotel room really doesn't appeal".

This information has led to Refresh Accommodation, one of London's leading serviced apartment letting companies to launch Refresh Corporate. Refresh Corporate aims to showcase the breadth of services available to the business traveller whilst fulfilling all professionals' accommodation needs.

Stratford and Canary Wharf / Docklands will be the key London areas during the London Olympic Games 2012. However, Refresh Corporate has noticed through their bookings that London Bridge, Westminster and Green Park are also increasing in popularity due to convenience of travel to and from the Olympic venues.

Accommodation rates have already increased during the Olympic period from 20% to 200%. However, Refresh Corporate believes that they can lend business travellers a helping hand, providing them with affordable apartments during the Olympics.

Ross Patterson, Director of Refresh Corporate commented: "When it comes to sourcing accommodation for a large event, such as the Olympic Games in London, we have found that often hotels and brokers are contacted for their rates. There is a wide variety of accommodation available across the capital and for lengthy stays a serviced apartment could provide a more cost effective solution."

Research into the costs of hotels compared with serviced apartments found that:
- Hotel prices fluctuate between GBP316 to GBP540 per night during the Olympic period
- The rates of standard studio apartment or executive double studio in South Kensington ranges between GBP184 or GBP234

Travellers staying for a longer term basis through the Olympics can take advantage of negotiated rates and reduced VAT with Refresh Corporate offering serviced apartments from GBP125.00 per night and a further 5% reduction for stays over a week.

Mr Patterson continued: "There is no harm in shopping around, especially when it comes to sourcing appropriate accommodation for either the business professional or family at affordable prices. With many hotels using the Olympic Games as an excuse for exaggerating prices, London visitors could seek a more comforting and cost effective solution in the form of serviced apartments."

Serviced apartments offer guests their own living area and fully equipped kitchen and free Wi-Fi access. Business travellers can not only enjoy a more spacious alternative to hotel rooms, but also avoid the crowds and high prices that will come with eating out in London during the Olympics, as everything they need is in their apartment. Refresh Corporate have negotiated reasonable rates and terms of booking with their properties in order to ensure their corporate clients needs are met.
