Leading Medical Diagnostic Company Uses MadCap Suite to Optimize the Delivery of Online Help and Print Manuals for Six Instruments in Nine Languages

New case study from MadCap Software examines how Instrumentation Laboratory uses the entire MadPak technical communications suite to create intuitive, localized print manuals and online help featuring interactive tutorials.

LA JOLLA, CA, June 05, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- MadCap Software, Inc. (www.madcapsoftware.com), the leader in multi-channel content authoring and a showcase company for Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft XPS, today announced that it has published a new case study on Instrumentation Laboratory (IL). IL is using the entire MadPak technical communications suite (http://www.madcapsoftware.com/products/madpak/overview.aspx) to create online Help and PDF print manuals for six blood-testing products, which are delivered in nine languages to support customers throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

For more than 50 years, IL has been a leader in providing medical professionals with diagnostic instruments and reagents for critical care and hemostasis. To support its automated, easy-to-use blood testing line, the company places a priority on delivering an online Help system that makes it fast and simple for medical professionals to find the information they need. Today, IL relies on MadCap's suite to create easy-to-navigate, online Help and PDF manuals for customers around the world in their language of choice--all from a single source project.

* MadCap Flare's Help output provides easy access to topics, drop down text and search functionality, making it easy for users to find information. Meanwhile, support for single-source, multi-channel publishing means all versions of online Help and PDF manuals are produced from a single Flare project.

* MadCap Lingo simplifies translation into eight European and Asian languages. It also eliminates redundancy, since only new content needs to be translated. The initial translation project was about 140,000 words, but with MadCap Lingo's full support for translation memory, IL translates only new updates, which usually total fewer than 3,000 words.

* MadCap Analyzer reduces IL's translation costs by reducing word count. For example, a translation company proposed fees for translating 175,000 words. However, IL used Analyzer to run the statistics, and found the Help project contained only 145,000 words, reducing the translation costs by nearly 20%.

* MadCap Capture provides image capture and graphic editing functionality, and integration with Flare means that conditional tags can be used to coordinate pictures for different versions of IL's online Help and PDF manuals.

"The MadPak tools are truly saving our company time, improving the quality of the content that we provide our customers, and ensuring that our information is complete," said Steve Gramolini, Instrumentation Laboratory technical writer. "I have found these tools to be easy to use, and after using them for two years, MadCap has proven that it can deliver what we need."

"Instrumentation Laboratory has clearly established itself as a leader in medical diagnostics through a commitment to innovation. We are excited by IL's success in using our cutting-edge MadPak technical communications suite to deliver online Help and print manuals that are as state-of-the-art as their products," said Anthony Olivier, MadCap founder and CEO. "IL's ability to deliver its manuals and easy-to-search Help in eight languages, all from a single project, is a testament to the value of a modern authoring suite, designed from the ground up to support single-source multi-channel publishing in users' language of choice."
