Fourth of July Car Travel Expected to Increase--Safety Needs to be a Key Factor on the Road

Attorney Michael Ehline discusses DUI accidents and how to stay safe during the July 4 holiday weekend while driving in traffic.

LOS ANGELES, CA, July 03, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Los Angeles car accident lawyer Michael P. Ehline, is not just an accident attorney, he is a "DUI Accident Attorney", and he is urging California residents to stay safe on the roads. He says that with the sudden decrease in gas prices, it appears there should be an actual increase in traffic on the roadways for the 4th of July holiday.

Ehline Law Firm PC's lead counsel, Michael Ehline, says that car accidents can happen even to safe drivers; car accidents can be caused by others; and in California, most car crashes result in serious injury or fatality.

Many are Hitting Bars and Clubs - Maybe Hitting You On the Way Home

More people will be hitting the roads to celebrate Independence Day and for summer vacations this year and that will increase traffic congestion on the roadways. Some go to parties with no designated sober driver, to night clubs, and so forth. This means boos and impairment. "Drivers need to practice safe, defensive driving and so do potential passengers", attorney Ehline said, to avoid injury.

July 4 Driving Tips

Ehline says to always keep a cushion of space, to slow down, or veer off of roads when it is safe, when there is an "obvious, drunk or impaired driver on the road with you"; to never text, play with knobs, or phones while driving, or stopped in an operating vehicle that is powered "on."

These are just a few tips, the most obvious ones are: (1) Never drink, or do drugs and drive or operate a motorized vehicle; (2) Never get into a vehicle where the driver is on drugs, or impaired by alcohol, or even prescription meds."

AAA Says a Forty Two Percent Travel Increase Over July 4 Holiday - Reasons

AAA auto club is expecting as many as 42.3 million Americans to travel a distance of 50 miles from home over the Independence Day holiday period that extends from Tuesday, July 3rd, through Sunday, July 8th. AAA auto club officials said the expected amount of American's on the roadways is approximately a 42 percent increase from 2009.

Reasons for the uptick probably include that gas prices are down approximately 44 cents from the seasonal peak in April, with regular gas prices averaging $3.50 a gallon nationwide, and down 16 cents from this time last year.

According to GasBuddy.com website, the average price for a gallon of gas in Los Angeles is $3.49, as of June 29th. Due to the lower gas prices the AAA believes that 84 percent of Independence Day holiday travel will be by auto.

Drinking and driving is a large concern during the July 4th holiday period and Ehline said that the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety says Independence Day is the second deadliest day for driving under the influence deaths. It comes in just behind New Year's Day for drunk driving deaths.

Ehline said that according to the AAA more people are killed in motor vehicle crashes on the 4th of July than any other day of the year. The car accident attorney said," While this is a celebratory holiday, some people go too far and then get behind the wheel." "When this happens, even the safest driver can be a victim of another driver's negligence and reckless actions," Ehline said.
Ehline Law Firm, PC specializes in personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits on behalf of clients in Southern California and throughout the state, who have been injured or lost a family member in a motor vehicle crash.

In California over 70 percent of motor vehicle accidents result in injury or fatality, Ehline said. "No one on the roadway is invulnerable of being involved in a car crash and being seriously injured. Drivers can protect themselves and others in their vehicle by practicing safe driving, when they are on the California roadways."

Attorney Ehline said that information about car accidents can be found on the law firm's website, including accident victim's rights and legal options. Information can be found, what to do after a car accident on the website.
