A former commercial real estate lendor in Washington, D.C., Ms. Schoonover enjoyed providing loans to nonprofit organizations in order to help develop various communities. She has now served the Branch Banking and Trust Company as a community development specialist and vice president for the past seven years. In her current role, she acts as the liaison between the bank, nonprofits, some government agencies, community development corporations and affordable housing developers.

With knowledge in deal structuring and the identification of resources, Ms. Schoonover oversees business and community development and provides opportunities for the bank to partner with various organizations to help redevelop communities and create affordable housing. She has vast experience in working in different areas of banking and credits both this and her passion for what she does to her succesful career.

In 1998, Ms. Schoonover earned a bachelor's degree in finance and management from Mercer University. She recently relocated to Alabama, a new market for BB&T. As a certified housing development finance professional and certified economic development finance professional, she is excited about the opportunity to use her skill set to work with a variety of organizations around redevelopment in Alabama and the Florida panhandle.
