ADRIAN, MI, July 30, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jeya Carmichael, BS, MA, Educator and National Trainer for Time To Teach, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.
Ms. Carmichael has nurtured endowments that have grown and developed over the course of an illustrious 22-year career, and she continues to learn and grow as an educator and national trainer. Specializing in language arts, reading, discipline and social sciences, Ms. Carmichael collects data, performs evaluations, and creates lesson plans. She is also responsible for setting age-appropriate curriculum.and conducting workshops. Prior to joining Time to Teach, Ms. Carmichael served as an educator at La Casita Elementary School in Clovis, New Mexico, for four years, and went on to serve as an educator at Michener Elementary School and Adrian Middle School, for 17 years in Adrian, Michigan.
Ms. Carmichael's favorite quotation is from Mahatma Gandhi, 'Be the change you want to see in the world.' She also believes Madeline Hunter explained the educator's role quite well when she said, 'Kids don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.' Ms. Carmichael wants to see students make a choice to have school in their 'quality world,' meaning school ought to be satisfying. Like Jean Piaget, Jerome Bruner and Lev Vygotsky, Ms. Carmichael believes that teaching and learning take place in a social setting, and must include direct teaching and independent practice. She firmly believes that students need to have established expectations and boundaries to feel safe and learn. She believes that children must be taught to use appropriate behaviors that lead to school success in their world. She says, "It is a shared responsibility for parents and teachers. We genuinely need to care and to build trust and rapport for school to be in their quality world." Ms. Carmichael hopes to leave a mark by educating and making life successful for all children in our society. She wants to ensure that they have a fair education, achieve success in their academics, and value school for their own children. Toward these goals, she stays abreast of current educational research and uses her knowledge to help colleagues, students, administrators, parents and others. The personal highlights of her life occurred when she married Jim Carmichael and had two children, Jeff and Jackie. Later, they welcomed three grandchildren, Alyssa, Seth, and Khale. Ms. Carmichael is committed to being an expert in the field of education and she is writing a book to help community members and educators share in the responsibility of grooming children for a productive life in their world. She ensures that all children make gains with differentiated learning practices and uses a variety of modalities and multiple intelligences in her teaching and learning practices.
Ever passionate about her work, Ms. Carmichael attributes her success to her persistence and dedication to pursuing her goals. Her mission has always been to bring about the best education for children, and she sees no better way to make a positive impact than to teach and share her expertise with fellow educators. She became involved in her profession because the value of education was ingrained in her as a child. Her parents were educators and most of her siblings were educators or counselors. Her first experiences in education occurred while following her mother to help her teach in the rubber plantations of Malaysia. The most gratifying aspect of her career is seeing children increase in confidence and self-esteem because they are achieving success at school. She knows that she has made a small mark in children's lives when she sees their faces light up with happiness because they have made significant progress, specifically in reading or mathematics. She is always glad to see children go from not knowing how to write to writing complete stories, or becoming able to complete math problems because they understand the concept and the process.
Ms. Carmichael received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an Endorsement in Language Arts from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico, and a Master of Arts in K-12 Curriculum and Endorsements for Language Arts and Social Sciences from Eastern Michigan University. Ms. Carmichael is also a Renaissance Master Educator, and a former member of The Michigan State University Extension Advisory Council. In the near future, Ms. Carmichael plans to continue to impact students' lives by sharing her experience and expertise in educational best practices with educators by authoring books in her field.
