VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA, July 31, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barbara Halcrow, MSW, a published author and a Family and Social Support Practitioner for Vancouver Coastal Health, has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in Social Services. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.

With more than three decades of experience in the social work sector, Ms. Halcrow has developed a strong foundation in education, advocacy, counselling, group facilitation, community work, staff development and team building that spans diverse populations and work environments. Over the course of her career, she has served in a wide range of areas that include drug and alcohol counselling, mental health, child abuse and protection, family counselling, battered women, people with disabilities and survivors of sexual abuse. In addition to social work, Ms. Halcrow has studied psychology, sociology, art and spirituality. She is an intuitive, compassionate and encouraging person who prides herself on her ability to understand people's needs and respond to them. She has lived in British Columbia, Manitoba, the Yukon and she even taught English-as-a-Second Language in Korea for more than a year. Upon returning to Canada, she developed a private practice for five years, additionally focusing on a pre-post surgery preparation model.

Ms. Halcrow joined Vancouver Coastal Health in 2001 in various Social Work roles including Clinical Practice Leader of Social Work at GF Strong Rehab Centre followed by Professional Practice Leader at Richmond Hospital. In 2006 she became a Family and Social Support Consultant, where she works with the clinical team responsible for the care of older adults in the Three Bridges Community Health Centre. She is often asked to give presentations and conduct training in the areas of neglect, abuse and the needs of aging and vulnerable adults. Working with the leadership team to support all the inter-disciplinary team members at her own site and other health units within Vancouver Coastal Health Region, Ms. Halcrow consults and provides care-planning for clients with complex health issues. She also collaborates with other agencies, committees, facilities and community partners that are part of the large acute care, rehab and mental health/addictions communities.

Eventually, Ms. Halcrow found her passion for writing and in May 2011, she completed what she believes to be her most joyful career achievement, the publishing of her book entitled "Spiritual Intelligence, How Your Spirit will Lead You to Health, Happiness and Success". The book is currently available on amazon.ca.com, amazon.co.uk, www.chapters.indigo.ca, Barnes and Noble's website as well as at Banyan Books, Little Sister's Book & Art Emporium and Tanglewood Books in Vancouver, Ms. Halcrow's book focuses on how your spirit will lead you to health, happiness and success. Ms. Halcrow's book provides understanding and guidance for opening and strengthening yourself to receive more of your spirit's direction and healing. It also talks about increasing your positive energy to magnetize what you desire and recognizing emotional blocks and fears that can keep happiness away. Additionally, it teaches people to become more aware of the meaning and lessons of relationships. Furthermore, Ms. Halcrow discusses the value of realizing your higher purpose in life and recognizing your Higher Self. She invites you to better understand what synchronicity, dreams and divine intervention can reveal about your life path.

Attributing her success to her focus, spirit and positive self-regard and in keeping her heart open, Ms. Halcrow was encouraged to become involved in her profession and then in her writing, after shifting her career-focus from physical education to social work. She emphasizes that many of her shifts and changes in life are because she feels deeply guided by her conscious connection with spiritual energy. Humbled, she doesn't see herself as essentially 'separate' from others as she perceives more of the 'connectedness' between people. She believes she is here for her soul's growth and learning and to also teach what she has learned. She is grateful for her spirit's guidance and to the people who support her. Knowing how much happiness it has brought her, Ms. Halcrow would like to eliminate people's inability to fully embrace their own sense of lovingness and cultivate their ability to love and receive love more easily.

Ms. Halcrow's educational background includes a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Manitoba as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria. She also holds a Reiki Second Level Certification and belongs to the BC College of Social Workers. Ms. Halcrow also holds membership in the International Women's Leadership Association, who also recognized Ms. Halcrow for her contribution to family, career and community and selected her as a woman of outstanding leadership in childcare.

Looking forward, Ms. Halcrow plans to continue writing and teaching in the areas she's written about. She would like to be remembered as having a good sense of humor, being spirited, loving and compassionate as she could be, while strongly believing in the sacredness of all life.
