Mr Granek has bachelor degrees from the University of Melbourne in both Architectural and Civil Engineering and he has been involved with project management and the building industry since 1974. Since 2004, Mr Granek has been the Director of Developments at the Bensons Property Group. This company, which is privately owned, is recognized as one of Melbourne's leading inner city property development and investment companies. In this senior management role, Mr Granek oversees and manages Bensons' Development Section. Duties involve undertaking and supervising the identification of new projects, business opportunities and sites for redevelopment as well as providing comprehensive project management services which encompass the full range of time, cost, quality and delivery aspects. Tasks involve the undertaking of feasibility and viability studies, acquiring sites for redevelopment, obtaining rezoning where required, obtaining planning permits, funding submissions, briefing, consultants commissioning and supervision, initiating and facilitating development solutions, authorities liaison, obtaining of building approvals and permits, design, documentation, tendering, construction supervision and administration, assisting project sales personnel, team management, recruitment of development staff and post occupancy evaluation of completed projects. Mr Granek overviews all Bensons' development projects whilst remaining involved in a Project Director capacity in various projects. Milestone projects include:
