Old Masters Added to Leading Contemporary Art Fair Frieze London for First Time

The annual art exhibition brings both historic and contemporary art to Regent's Park

LONDON, ENGLAND, September 04, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This October, Frieze London, one of the world's leading contemporary art fairs introduces Frieze Masters, a new fair with a contemporary perspective on historical art. Together the two fairs promise to be "one of the most anticipated moments in the international art world calendar," according to Frieze co-directors Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover whose fair regularly attracts over 60,000 visitors to London each year.

Some of the world's most influential art buyers are expected to arrive in London when Frieze opens to the public from 11th to 14th October 2012 in Regent's Park for its tenth year, and those looking for somewhere to stay, whether on business or visiting the fair as an art exhibition, LondonTown.com has a wide choice of conveniently located London hotels to choose from, offering something to suit all budgets and tastes.

Frieze Masters, located a short walk from Frieze London, features 98 of the world's leading galleries specialising in Old Masters and works by 20th-century artists. The event includes Frieze Masters Talks, a programme of specially commissioned talks by influential figures including painter and Turner Prize 2000 nominee Glenn Brown; Luc Tuymans, a leading exponent of figurative painting during the 1990s; and British-born painter Cecily Brown who will be in conversation with Dr. Nicholas Penny, Director of the National Gallery since 2008.

Also new this year is Focus, which was first introduced at Frieze New York, launched in May 2012, a section for galleries established after 2001 showing a presentation of up to three gallery artists. It's one of three sections to Frieze London which also includes the main gallery section and Frame, a section dedicated to emerging and sometimes overlooked galleries and solo artists. In 2012, 16 of the 21 galleries in the Frame section are new to the London fair.

The artists commissioned as part of Frieze Projects to make site-specific work for Frieze London 2012 include Thomas Bayrle, a key figure in European Pop Art; Asli Cavusoglu, one of a new generation of young Istanbul-based artists; and Joanna Rajkowska, a Polish artist based in London, Berlin and Warsaw whose project, Forcing a Miracle intends to make the ground of Regent's Park - soil, grass and stones - burn and produce smoke.

The Sculpture Park, a popular part of Frieze London, returns again this year providing visitors with an opportunity to enjoy contemporary art in a more informal way and without paying an entry fee.
